Plan my move
Just bought a home
It already has an alarm
Many homes come with an alarm system the previous owner left behind. In many cases we can take it over instead of starting from scratch.
- We check what's installed and whether it can be reused
- We reset codes so previous owners and installers are locked out
- We connect it to 24/7 UL Listed monitoring
- We replace aging batteries, smoke and CO detectors as needed
How a takeover works
New home, no system
Start fresh
Moving day is the best time to add security, before furniture and finished walls get in the way of clean wiring.
- Free on-site walkthrough of your new home
- Alarm, cameras, smart locks and video doorbell
- Smoke, CO and water leak protection
- Everything controlled from one app

New-home security checklist
Just got the keys? Run through this list in your first week.
- Change the locks or rekey. You don't know how many keys are still out there.
- Change every alarm code. Including the master code, and any codes the old installer may have set.
- Check the smoke and CO detectors. Look for the manufacture date and replace any that are more than 10 years old.
- Test every door and window sensor. Make sure each one reports to the panel.
- Reset WiFi and smart devices. Factory reset cameras, doorbells and smart locks so the old owners can't access them.
- Find your water main shut-off. And consider leak sensors near the boiler, water heater and washer.
- Register your alarm with your town or village. Many Long Island municipalities require an alarm permit. See our permits guide.
- Update your monitoring contacts. Make sure the central station has your names and numbers, not the last owner's.
