While manual use like adjusting the thermostat directly will still be possible, connected features like remote control via phone and integration with other smart home devices will stop working.
End of support for Nest Learning Thermostats (1st & 2nd gen)
Nest has announced the end of support for Nest Learning Thermostats (1st and 2nd gen). Your thermostat will no longer connect to or work in the Google Nest app or Google Home app starting on October 25, 2025.
Users of the affected devices received an email notification with an offer. If not, please contact Google Support.
Nest Learning Thermostat (1st gen, 2011)
Nest Learning Thermostat (2nd gen, 2012)
Nest Learning Thermostat (2nd gen, Europe version, 2014)
What this means for you:
Starting October 25, 2025, your device will be unpaired and removed from your Nest app or Home app. This also removes third-party assistants and other connected or cloud-based features like Home/Away Assist and multi-device Eco mode control. Nest Protects will also disconnect from the thermostat and emergency shut off will no longer run. In addition, you won't be able to:
Check the status of your thermostat in the Nest or Home app.
Remotely control the device.
Receive notifications.
Change settings from your phone or tablet.
You can still continue to control your thermostat directly on your device to:
Manage auto-schedule settings. The pre-set schedules will continue to work uninterrupted. For more info, refer to Check and manage auto-schedule settings.
Switch between temperature modes. To learn more, refer to Nest thermostat temperature modes.
Access all other features and settings available on the thermostat itself.
The devices will no longer receive software or security updates, which may lead to decreased performance with continued use. They will continue to report logs for issue diagnostics.
On the device, the connection status may be shown as "None" or "Connected" after unpairing.
We’ve reached out to eligible users in the US and Canada for the Nest Learning Thermostat (4th gen) at a special price: $149.99 in the US and CA$ 219.99 in Canada (nearly 50% off).
To tell if your thermostat is impacted, refer to How to tell which Nest thermostat you have or Log into Your Devices to check your devices.
You can also confirm the model, serial number, software version, and other details in the Nest app or Home app.
